You want to replace your kitchen tap and you don’t want to call a plumber out, if you haven’t done it before, follow our guide to help you with your job!
Removing you old tap
- Turn off the water supply and clear the space underneath your sink to give you space to work.
- Turn on the kitchen tap so that any water left in the tap is drained.
- You’ll see two flexi pipes underneath your sink, make a note of which one is the hot supply and which one is the cold supply.
- Unscrew the two flexi pipes from the mains water, you’ll need an adjustable spanner and grips.
- Now you need to unscrew the tap from the surface it’s mounted too, it can be difficult to get to but using the grips to slightly undo, you should then be able to unscrew it with your fingers to make it easier to access.
Fitting your new tap
- Fit the new flexi pipes supplied with the tap onto the current water supplies.
- Insert your new tap into the tap hole, using the washers as per the tap instructions.
- Now tighten the fixing nut from the underside of your surface to make the tap sit tight on your work surface.
- The flexis connected to the water supplies are now ready to be connected to the threads of the bottom of your new tap, tighten these up hand tight before fully tightening with an adjustable spanner.
- Now its time to test your nerve, you can now turn back on your water supply and allow the tap to run and to check for any leaks, if none are found then your tap is ready to go. If there is a leak then there may be a nut that just needs that little bit more tightening.
